Dagenham man in boiling oil plot to avoid homelessness jailed

by
Ivan Bonaparte

A man from Dagenham has been sentenced for a “horrific”, unprovoked attack in which he threw scorching cooking oil on another man.

Ivan Bonaparte, of Cambeys Road, was sentenced to ten years in prison at Snaresbrook Crown Court on January 10.

He was sentenced for grievous harm with intent following an incident in Dagenham last year in which he threw a vat of boiling oil at the victim.

Det Insp James Rush said: “This was a horrific and unprovoked attack on an unsuspecting man, who is thankfully recovering well from the injuries sustained during this assault.”

“I would like to thank him for his assistance in helping us secure this conviction.”

“There is no excuse for this type of violence and our enquiries soon established his actions that evening were deliberate and inexcusable. My officers will continue to tackle violence, in all its forms.”

On July 30, police were summoned to a residence in Dagenham after receiving complaints from a man who observed the attack.

The 33-year-old handed himself in at Dagenham police station after being observed fleeing the site of the incident with a hammer.

His victim was a man in his 40s who had significant burns on his face, neck, and back.

He required continued hospital care following the incident.
