Chadwell Heath theft

A man who had his keyless truck taken from his driveway in Chadwell Heath has advised others to use steering wheel disc locks to secure their cars.

The cleaning service owner, who did not want to be identified, informed the Recorder that the event occurred on Sunday (May 19) about 3.57 a.m. at his home on Somerville Road, Romford, RM6.

CCTV footage of the event appears to show two masked individuals entering the driveway and escaping with the vehicle in seconds. One of them looked to have a laptop strapped to him.

According to the business owner, the vehicle has been utilised for projects requiring the transportation of equipment since 2019.

He said that he will be unable to do such things until he receives a replacement car.

His wife’s Range Rover, which was parked next to the truck, was left unharmed, he explained, due to a disc lock.

“I didn’t really think anyone would be interested in stealing my truck,” he said.

“You don’t think this will happen to you, but it does and unfortunately the probability in our areas is quite high. So, I really want people to be aware about  disc locks and not let them (the suspects) win”, he said.

He further added that he had faced hurdles with his insurance claim and while the case was reported to the police, it was closed.

“People think they have insurance and its going to be fine. But it is a lot of hassle. You don’t want to go through that.

“So, we need to do what we can to stop this from happening by taking precautions and spending money on these disc locks”, he said.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed that the vehicle was reported stolen, and officers carried out an investigation to look for possible lines of enquiries.

“We were unable to identify any suspects and the probe is now complete.

“But should any further leads become available, this matter will be re-opened”, a police spokesperson said.
