A council company has announced that hundreds of new houses will be built in Barking and Dagenham by the end of June this year.
Be First, Barking and Dagenham Council’s regeneration department, expects to build 900 new homes in the first half of 2024.
These new developments will increase ‘affordable’ housing around the borough, including the Gascoigne region, Oxlow Lane, and Thames Road.
The council and Be First are collaborating with contractors such as Mulally, Wates, and McLaren to build these homes.
The 900 residences will include 158 market rent properties and 743 ‘affordable’ homes financed by the government’s Affordable Home Programme.
Once completed, the new residences will be marketed and available for rent.
Tim Porter, director of delivery at Be First, said: “Be First will continue providing safe, warm, high-quality homes for residents throughout 2024, as we handover 900 in the first half of the year alone.”
Councillor Cameron Geddes added: “I’m delighted to say that in just the first six months of 2024 we’ll be completing nearly a thousand new homes in Barking and Dagenham, with the vast majority of these being affordable.”
